Kobalt has signed widely–successful music producer and DJ, Marshmello to a worldwide agreement that includes publishing administration and synchronization for all of Marshmello’s future works, as well as his back catalogue.

Becoming one of the fastest rising dance producers in history, Marshmello has garnered more than two billion streams to date, sold out over 350 consecutive shows worldwide, and is currently ranked seventh in the world on Spotify. Following his first major release of an official remix of Jack U and Justin Bieber’s global hit “Where Are U Now,” he has gone on to collaborate with the likes of Selena Gomez, Khalid, Migos, Anne–Marie, Logic, James Arthur and Juicy J. His 2016 debut full–length, Joytime, entered the Top 5 on Billboard’s Top Dance/Electronic Albums, with his track “Alone” reaching more than 154 million Spotify plays and over 1 billion YouTube video views, garnering Platinum certification in one year. Currently, his YouTube channel counts more than 2.5 billion views and over 15 million subscribers. Last month, Marshmello announced his sophomore album, Joytime II.

Kobalt Senior Creative Director, Dominique Keegan, said of the deal, “Marshmello is a remarkably talented producer, artist, and collaborator. Following the recent launch of its YouTube Premium service and expansion of YouTube Music, as well as a recent keynote at VidCon from the company’s Chief Product Officer, Neal Mohan, YouTube revealed a number of key platform updates and successes last week. According to Mohan in his recent entry to the official YouTube blog, the service currently counts over 1.9 billion users logged–in who visit the service monthly with localized versions reaching 90 countries and 80 languages.

Among last week’s news updates was YouTube’s announcement that its YouTube Music U.K. operations will be presenting a free, four–day event featuring British music at the end of this week. Taking place June 28th– July 1st in London, YouTube Music: In Residence will feature performances from Becky Hill, Zac Pajak, Mirra May, Amun, Oli Fox and Chelcee Grimes, as well as discussions with BBC Radio’s Annie Mac, SB.TV’s Jamal Edwards and DJ/producer, Paul Oakenfold. The event is a collaboration with SBTV, Sony Music, Warner Music, Universal Music UK, Dazed and Pitchblack Playback.

Additionally, Mohan’s VidCon keynote revealed YouTube is currently at work on the development of new tools for creators to generate revenue from their content outside of just advertising. Among the new tools are included an expansion on the Channel Membership offering that will see creators counting more than 100,000 subscribers with access to the benefits of the platform; the ability for creators to sell customized merchandise via their channel through a partnership between YouTube and Teespring; and a new feature, billed as Premieres, offering creators the capability to release pre–recorded video content as a live moment. As creators opt to release a Premiere, YouTube will automatically create a public landing page, and fans who choose to watch the premiere will have the ability to live chat with each other and the creator.

Via his blog entry (full post HERE), Mohan shared that the new creator features stem from the success of the platform’s Super Chat product which was rolled out last year. Super Chat gives fans the ability to purchase messages that are highlighted within a live chat. With the new updates, Super Chat and Channel Membership benefits, which had only been available for Live videos, will now be available to creators through traditional video uploads as well.

Last week also saw three more artists reaching the one billion view milestone for their videos on YouTube including Bruno Mars with “24K Magic” and Rihanna and Drake with “Work.” The feat marks Mars’ fifth video to reach the one billion mark, tying the number set by Maluma. Rihanna joins Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj at four billion–view videos, the most for female acts on the platform, and Drake adds his second billion–view video. Still in the top spot for most videos to make the threshold is Justin Bieber at six.
