Following up on its highly–successful 20th global edition earlier this year, MUSEXPO’s re–imagined adaptation and evolution to its annual global music and media conference, billed as Creative Summit 2019, is set to take place as part of a week–long series of events, including the 9th annual Worldwide Radio Summit, that will coincide as part of the brand–new California Entertainment Week, taking place March 24th – 29th.

Jacqueline Saturn
Capitol Music Group (CMG) has announced the promotion of Jacqueline Saturn to President for its distribution/services arm, Caroline. The new role will see Saturn maintaining her leadership of Caroline’s U.S. team with oversight of its full business operations including artist/label signings, partnerships, and strategic planning and cooperations with Caroline International’s 11 additional offices worldwide. She reports to Michelle Jubelirer, CMG's Chief Operating Officer.

With Saturn leading, Caroline has doubled its U.S. market share to over 3%. Among the recent successes for Caroline are included three No.1 Billboard 200 debuts with rapper NF (Perception), rap trio Migos (Culture II) and XXXTentacion (?), as well as four Top 5 Billboard 200 debuts with Huncho Jack (Huncho Jack, Jack Huncho) and rappers 6ix9ine (Day69), Lil Baby (Harder Than Ever) and Trippie Redd (Life’s A Trip). The past year has also seen Caroline artists garnering 14 Platinum and 17 Gold single certifications in the U.S.

Alongside her duties with Caroline, Saturn will also continue leading CMG's Harvest Records which has seen recent successes with Glass Animals, Banks and Donna Missal.

Alfonso Perez–Soto
Warner Music Group (WMG) has announced the appointment of Alfonso Perez–Soto to EVP Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa. The newly–created role will have him overseeing the company's operations in those fast–developing markets. Based in Miami and New York, Alfonso will report to WMG’s CEO, International and Global Commercial Services, Stu Bergen.

Alfonso Perez–Soto says, “I’m delighted to take up this new role as we expand our presence in key emerging markets. These regions have fantastic local performers and provide a huge opportunity for our international artists. I can't wait to get started working alongside our brilliant in–house teams and licensees across the globe.”

Bergen adds, “Alfonso has a knack for unlocking business opportunities in emerging markets. There's no one better–placed to spearhead our growth in these areas, which are crucial for the future of our company. In today's streaming ecosystem these regions are going to become increasingly influential in breaking new artists globally.”

The past five years have seen WMG leading a number of major initiatives in these emerging markets including the establishment of Warner Music Russia and Warner Music South Africa in 2013; the integration of EMI's affiliates in key Eastern European markets in the same year; and the acquisition of Polskie Nagrania in 2015.

Perez–Soto’s time at WMG started as VP of Business Development for Latin America and U.S. Hispanic Markets before later becoming Sr. VP, Business Development, Latin America, Spain and Emerging Markets. In 2017, he was appointed to the new role of Global Business Development and Chief Commercial Officer, Emerging Markets. Perez–Soto played a key role in accelerating WMG's expansion in emerging markets, particularly across Latin America.

Additional past roles for Perez–Soto include stops at Telefonica as VP, Content Corporate Unit; Universal Music Group in Latin America as Sr. Business Developer; and Nokia, where he held a number of senior positions.


Daniel Glass & Dylan Cartlidge
Glassnote Records has signed U.K. artist Dylan Cartlidge for the world. The 23–year–old is a multi–talented singer, rapper and instrumentalist having worked with James Dring (Jamie T, Gorillaz) and St Francis Hotel (producers of “Scratch, Sniff”).

Cartlidge said, "It's been like holding my breath trying not to just shout from the hills about this to everybody that knows and supports me. It’s finally happened and I strongly believe that this is the right place for my music and for myself. There was never any doubt or confusion in my mind around the signing. I'd met Daniel and the team many times and their skills in the industry, their recent successes and their uniquely reassuring philosophical and musical values all align pretty damn well with my own. Dylan has garnered additional support from media outlets such as Pigeons and Planes, Fader, NME, Clash and others. His live credits include sets at Reading & Leeds, The Great Escape, Live at Leeds, Hit The North and Wakefield Long Division Festival, Latitude Festival, Humble Street Festival in Hull, and many more. Dylan is also confirmed to support Bad Sounds and Darwin Deez on their U.K. tours this fall.


A new video distribution network has been rolled out via a partnership between Warner Music Australia and Australian talent management, digital and PR agency, Born Bred Talent. The partnership provides YouTube influencers access to Warner Music’s roster of talent for the monetization of creator content. From Born Bred’s side, they will provide support across audience development, content programming, creator collaborations, digital rights management and optimizing monetization, as well as for elevating the YouTube content of Warner Music’s acts. At the same time, Warner Music Australia will use Born Bred Talent as their preferred agency for influencer marketing, overseeing campaigns for artists, tours and domestic signings.

Greta Van Fleet
Apple Music has revealed breakthrough act Greta Van Fleet as the platform’s first rock band featured via their new “Up Next” program. Having made their initial mark on Apple Music as the streamer’s “New Artist of the Week” in April of last year, the outfit has since found themself placed across all of Apple Music’s rock playlists over the last year. The “Up Next” exposure will include an exclusive short film featuring a stripped–down rendition of “When The Curtain Falls” as well as a look into the band’s early days and influences.

In other Apple Music news, the streamer has announced the appointment of Brian Bumbery to Director of Publicity, a role which Bumbery will assume at the end of the month. Bumbery’s transition to Apple Music sees him parting ways with his own PR firm, BB Gun Press, which was founded in 2011. The client list at BB Gun Press has included Metallica, Green Day, Beck and Soundgarden as well as others. Prior, Bumbery held an eight–year–stint with Warner Bros. Records, eventually rising to Sr. VP of Publicity. His earlier career saw him as a Partner with Score Press. Assuming the lead role at BB Gun Press will be Luke Burland, who worked with Bumbery at Warner Bros. Records and joined the PR firm in 2016.

Universal Music Group’s (UMG) 10:22 pm imprint has added DJ/producer Alesso to their roster under an exclusive global recording agreement following the recent signing of YouTube star Lele Pons. Alesso’s debut under 10:22 pm, which is a partnership between UMG and LA–based Shots Studios, was released on Friday as the single, “Remedy.”

Entertainment One (eOne) music has signed an exclusive JV music publishing agreement with Grammy Award–winning producers/songwriters, The Stereotypes, via their recently launched imprint, Beach Wave Publishing. The group, composed of Jonathan Yip, Ray Romulus, Jeremy Reeves and Ray Charles McCullough II, is best–known for their work on Bruno Mars’ multi–Grammy Award–winning album, 24K Magic. Other credits for the collective include songs produced or written for Justin Bieber, Ne–Yo, Mary J. Blige, Fifth Harmony and Lil Yachty as well as others. At the same time, eOne music has finalized a worldwide publishing agreement with McCullough (aka RaCharm) as part of the deal. The new venture will see eOne and The Stereotypes working together to discover and develop new talent. Marcus Siskind will work day–to–day with Beach Wave on eOne’s behalf, with Amy Collins joining the company as A&R Director from Warner/Chappell Music. Last year, eOne also acquired the publishing administration rights to the Chuck Berry catalogue (via eOne imprint, Dualtone).

Kanye West
Having parted ways with both his longtime manager Izvor “Izzy” Zivkovic and co–manager Scooter Braun (who began co–managing West in 2016) earlier in the year, Kanye West has revealed he’s rebuilding his team. West has brought back on–board another previous manager in John Monopoly who worked with West throughout the first decade and first three albums of his career. Additionally, Braun, who over the past six months has continued his work with West outside of a formal management role, will step back into co–management duties alongside Monopoly.

In other news for Scooter Braun, he and fellow entrepreneur Gary Vaynerchuk have finalized a partnership with Ikonick, an online art retailer, to build the startup through further growing its brand licensing roster. Co–founded by Mark Mastrandrea and Jeff Cole in 2017, Ikonick’s canvas art offering, which includes both the creation and distribution of works, has generated nearly $10 million in revenue after 15 months. As the firm’s digital artist, Cole has amassed more than 400,000 followers on his personal Instagram and been contracted by brands such as Nike, Adidas, Jordan Brand, Disney, Marvel and others. Among Ikonick’s brand licenses are included deals to exclusively create art series’ for the NBA and Muhammad Ali. Braun and Vaynerchuk, who both assume an equity stake in the company, will seek to connect Ikonick with major brands across entertainment, sports, fashion and more for signature lines, with Vaynerchuk planning his own signature series with the company this fall. Ikonick’s offerings target younger consumers to bring them modern art at prices ranging from $40–$700.

Spotify’s Premium For Students tier has added Showtime TV to its bundle offer in addition to the already included Hulu. Bundling has become increasingly important for Spotify as it seeks to maintain an edge against growing competition from the likes of Apple Music, Amazon Music and Deezer.

A new record label has been formed under the banner of JustGold as a partnership between Founder Justin Goldman and Caroline, the latter of which will provide global distribution for JustGold releases moving forward. The label has also revealed its debut signing as London’s Millie Go Lightly who lent her vocals to two tracks on Young Thug’s 2017 full length, BEAUTIFUL THUGGER GIRLS. A 20–year–old junior at Syracuse University, Goldman studies under the Bandier Program, named after Sony/ATV Chairman and CEO Martin Bandier and overseen by Bill Werde, the former Editorial Director for Billboard. Via his management company Pr1me Sounds, Goldman previously looked after Lil Gnar (10K Projects/Capitol) and Yung Gravy (Republic). He’s also interned with 300 Entertainment, Atlantic Records and The FADER.

A partnership has been announced between Ticketmaster and Samsung’s virtual assistant Bixby to bring fans the ability to discover and purchase live event tickets via Bixby’s voice technology. Using Ticketmaster’s API, the voice–activated feature will be available to users of Samsung’s Galaxy Note9 device, allowing fans to search events with voice prompts such as “Hi Bixby, find concert tickets in [city]” with the device then directed accordingly for the selection and purchase of seats. Ticketmaster’s Samsung partnership adds to a list that already includes third–party offerings with Spotify, Groupon, Bandsintown and others. The ticketing capability via Bixby is currently available across N. America.

Facebook–owned Instagram has rolled–out its verification process to allow for users to request status and be recognized as a widely–known person, brand or entity on the platform. Marked by a small blue check–mark on platforms like Twitter, verification allows accounts to authenticate their presence on social networks, signifying their legitimate pages to fans.

ICM Partners has added the pop duo of Malcolm Kelley and Tony Oller, collectively known as MKTO, to their roster for representation worldwide across all areas. The two met initially on the set of Nickelodeon’s Gigantic, forming MKTO in 2014. Their breakthrough single “Classic” topped out at No.14 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified double–Platinum in the U.S., reaching Platinum and Gold status in Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, the U.K. and Denmark. The track generated over 351 million Spotify streams and more than 102 million YouTube views. The pair parted ways in 2016 before reuniting this year as they prepare to release a new single, “How Can I Forget,” via Crooked Paintings/BMG on September 7th.

Riptide Music Group (Riptide) has acquired the copyright to the classic song "You've Got the Makings of a Lover," originally recorded in 1963 by The Festivals, re–recorded in 2011 by Mayer Hawthorne, and most recently sampled in Migos’ hit song “BBO” (“Bad Bitches Only”). Written by Earl Moss, The Festivals’ rendition of the song was originally released by Mercury Records subsidiary Smash Records, and was produced by Spectra Productions. LA group Sly, Slick & Wicked re–worked the song in the 90s which brought attention back to the song’s original recording.

Snap Inc., the parent company of popular social network Snapchat, has tapped Kristen O’Hara to head up its sales operations as VP, U.S. Global Business Solutions. A veteran in the media marketing space, O’Hara comes to Snap from WarnerMedia where she has most recently served as CMO. Her new role sees her based out of New York while reporting to Imran Khan, Snap’s Chief Strategy Officer. Her new role will see O’Hara leading the firm’s business solutions arm, overseeing sales as well as Snap’s advertiser collaborations. O’Hara had been with WarnerMedia, which was Time Warner prior to AT&T’s acquisition of the company earlier this year, for 16 years. She replaces Jeff Lucas in her new role with Snap following his departure from Snap’s Head of Sales position in February.

Sony Music Entertainment has appointed Constance Williams as Sr. VP and Head of Human Resources, Americas, for the company. Based in Sony’s New York offices, she reports to Dasha Smith Dwin, the company’s EVP Global Chief Human Resources Officer. In her new role, Williams will be tasked with heading up talent acquisition and management along with organizational development functions for the Americas. Williams comes to Sony from her most recent role as Principal for HR Ace Consulting, LLC with other previous HR positions at IMG, Warner Media and Nielsen Media.

Elton John kicks off his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour in Allentown, PA on Saturday, September 8th. As he prepares to embark on a 3–year, sold–out tour, Elton and his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour have partnered with Twickets, the global fan–to–fan ticket marketplace, to offer fans a safe and secure place to buy or sell spare tickets. The Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour will include over 300 shows across five continents, with an estimated audience of 6 to 7 million fans before it concludes in 2021. The U.S. dates became the fastest–selling American Express presale of all time, moving 450,000 tickets on the first day, with 76 of the dates selling out instantly.

Maroon 5
Maroon 5 commenced selling off almost 200 pieces of their musical gear including guitars, microphones and keyboards via online marketplace Reverb last Thursday. The items listed have all been used either on stage or in studio by with the group, including instruments that were on the road for 2002’s world tour behind Songs About Jane.

Matador’s U.K. operations have added Alex Keague–Davies as General Manager to replace exciting GM, Natalie Judge. Keague–Davies comes to Matador from PIAS having served as International Project Manager working across in–house imprints PIAS Recordings and Play It Again Sam, as well as labels such as Ipecac and Partisan. Among the campaigns she oversaw included those for Faith No More, Matt Simons and Cigarettes After Sex. Matador’s U.S. office has also brought in Jake Whitener as Director of A&R.

Colombia–based Codiscos, one of the oldest and largest South American record labels and publishers having been founded in 1950, has built upon their publishing agreement with Sunflower Entertainment. The new deal encompasses expanded rights in a number of European territories, as well as monetization on YouTube, Facebook and new tech offerings. Codiscos initially signed to Sunflower Entertainment for U.S. publishing representation in 2012 with the latter having recently secured placements for Codiscos’ repertoire in productions including Narcos (Netflix), Zumba Fitness and MacGyver (CBS).

Robert Morris University’s new 161,000–square foot facility will be managed by former AEG CEO, Tim Leiweke’s, OVG Facilities. The multi–purpose venue, named UPMC Events Center after the University of Pittsburgh’s Medical Center, is scheduled to open its doors in summer of 2019. In addition to its 4,000–plus capacity arena, the facility also includes 11,000–square feet of conference and meeting space. Among the corporate sponsors already confirmed for the $43 million complex are UPMC, People Gas, Koppers, Eat’n Park, PNC, P.J. Dick, Pepsi and PGT Trucking. Leiweke’s OVG Facilities will provide full management, booking and operational support to UMPC Events Center which joins the OVG portfolio that already looks after the University of Pennsylvania’s Kovalchick Complex and the Universal of Maryland, Baltimore County’s UMBC Event Center.

Sentric Music has acquired a stake in boutique electronic music publishing company Black Rock. Black Rock Publishing was co–founded by former AFEM CEO Mark Lawrence and offers artist publishing, neighbouring rights representation and record label rights management services for artists and companies in the electronic music space. The deal sees Black Rock maintaining its own operations and branding within Sentric, with Lawrence joining the Sentric executive team. Kirsty Lawrence also joins Sentric, keeping her duties as the day–to–day contact for Black Rock’s clients. The acquisition brings Black Rock’s label, management and artist clients access to Sentric’s global resource and infrastructure. Black Rock currently looks after acts such as Roni Size, GotSome, Danny Howard, Rodriguez Jr, Matador, Felix Da Housecat, DJ Sneak and Harry Romero, as well as working with labels including Toolroom, mobilee, Snatch! and Full Cycle.

One of the most exciting bands emerging from Scotland is The LaFontaines. The four–piece deliver a unique sound that fuses the guitar swagger of Kasabian, with the edgy hip–hop delivery of The Streets and the electronic–pop undertones of twenty one pilots. Their 2015 debut album Class reached No.1 on the Indie Breakers Chart as they went on to tour with Anderson .Paak, Twin Atlantic and All Time Low as well as performing at major festivals including Reading & Leeds, Download, The Great Escape, T in the Park, TRNSMT and Reeperbahn. Last year, they released their sophomore album Common Problem to critical acclaim and were hailed the “Kings of The North” by Kerrang!. The quartet have spent the last two months touring as the main support for Don Broco across the UK and Europe, in addition to a number of festival appearances throughout the summer, followed by a UK tour this month which will lead to a European tour throughout October. The Scottish outfit has released their brandnew single “Up,” which is an upbeat summer rap/rock anthem. The LaFontaines are signed to SO Recordings for both Master and Publishing Rights, released through A Wolf At Your Door Records and are managed by Aarti Joshl and Iain Findlay. PALAST is a Berlin–based trio that combines modern production with 80s synth sounds. Sascha Pace (vocals, synth, guitar), Tommy Apus (drums, vocals, synth) and Marc Engel (synth, percussion) create fashion–minded music with striking guitars, deep drums and touching vocals. Their live show has often been described as Muse crashing together with 30 Seconds To Mars into a 1980s electronic pop club. PALAST was invited not once, but twice to perform at the prestigious Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Berlin on the catwalk for a designer in 2016 and 2017.
