CMRRA DISTRIBUTES OVER $78 MILLION IN ROYALTIES: The Canadian Musical Reproduction Rights Agency (CMRRA) has announced its 2023 year-end fiscal results. They reported a distribution of over $78 million (CDN), marking an 8.9% increase from 2022. This growth was driven by a more than 29% rise in audiovisual post-synchronization revenues, fueled by higher organic consumption and the addition of new services. International collections also saw a robust 20% increase. Physical distribution channels experienced an 8% boost, due to the continued popularity of vinyl, while online streaming services grew by 3% compared to the previous year. CMRRA also entered a strategic partnership with COSCAP (Copyright Society of Composers, Authors & Publishers) to manage the mechanical reproduction rights of its members in the Canadian market and the U.S. through their affiliate SX Works. They renewed a multi-year agreement with SiriusXM and several other digital service providers. The agency focused on enhancing its new publisher platform in collaboration with SoundExchange, successfully porting full end-to-end administration (invoicing, DSP payment collections, matching, royalty distributions, and royalty statements) for online streaming platforms and TikTok, without any disruptions to the quarterly schedule. In addition, CMRRA affiliated 247 new clients and expanded industry partnerships, welcoming twenty-five new and returning partners, including JUNOS, CCMA‘s, Indigenous Music Summit, Folk Music Ontario, and Battle of the Beatmakers.
