Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG) has appointed Sunita Kaur as President, Asia, entrusting her with leadership of the company’s operations across the region as it continues to expand its presence in one of the world’s fastest-growing music markets.

Sunita Kaur

Kaur brings experience spanning music, technology, and digital media. Over the past three years, she has worked as an executive-in-residence at Singapore Management University while also serving as an independent consultant on a range of strategic projects across the music industry. During this period, she advised music platforms, record labels, and venture capital firms on business growth, market development, and innovation initiatives.

Throughout her tenure at Spotify, she was instrumental in driving commercial growth, developing strategic partnerships, and supporting the platform’s expansion across multiple markets in the region.

JULIAN FRANZONI NAMED GM OF WARNER CHAPPELL MUSIC FOR ARGENTINA AND URUGUAY

Warner Chappell Music (WCM) has appointed Julian Franzoni as General Manager for Argentina and Uruguay, where he will lead regional operations and report to Gustavo Menéndez, President, U.S. Latin & Latin America, Warner Chappell Music. In this expanded leadership role, Franzoni will be responsible for accelerating growth across both markets while developing new global opportunities for the company’s expanding roster of songwriters and creators.

Julian Franzoni

Franzoni has been with WCM since 2016, where he has progressed through the A&R division from consultant to director, establishing himself as a central figure in shaping the contemporary Latin American music landscape. During his tenure, he has aided in signing and developing some of Argentina’s most influential artists, including Duki, Trueno, Silvestre y La Naranja, CA7RIEL & Paco Amoroso, Nico Cotton, and Tatool, alongside emerging Uruguayan talent such as The La Planta, Davus, and Tadu Vázquez.

With more than 30 years of experience in the music industry, Franzoni began his career at just 19 years old as a stage manager for Latin acts including Palito Ortega, Andrés Calamaro, and Federico Gil Solá of Divididos. He later spent 25 years managing Clanort, the private publishing company owned by Palito Ortega, before joining Warner Chappell Music. Throughout his career, he has led a range of initiatives, including the establishment of WCM’s operations in Uruguay and the development of its first recording studio in the region.

Gustavo Menéndez said, “Julian has been a driving force for our roster and creative community since he first joined Warner Chappell. He has established himself as a dynamic A&R leader with an extraordinary ability to connect with songwriters on a deep level, an innate instinct for the cultural pulse, and a sharp vision for where the market is heading. There’s immense value in placing such a creative, forward-thinking leader at the helm of our operations in Argentina and Uruguay, and I am confident he will steer our team through this exciting next chapter.”

Franzoni holds a degree in Advertising and Communications from the Fundación de Altos Estudios en Ciencias Comerciales in Buenos Aires and has also studied music and harmony at the Sebastián Piana School (SADAIC).

CHRIS WRIGHT RETURNS TO MUSIC WITH PUBLISHER AND LABEL RIGHT TRACKS

Chris Wright, best known as the Co-Founder of Chrysalis Records and a former Chairman of the BPI, has re-entered the music industry with the creation of a new company, Right Tracks. The venture marks Wright’s latest chapter in artist and songwriter development, drawing on decades of experience in the business.

Chris Wright

The current Right Tracks roster features a mix of emerging and established talent. Among its signings is indie-rock band Black Lounge, which is represented by the company across both label and publishing services. Singer-songwriters Flora Fiora and Finn Forster have also joined the roster, with Flora Fiora signed for both label and publishing, while Finn Forster is represented on the publishing side. In addition, the company works with songwriter and composer Stuart Brayson, whose publishing interests are managed by Right Tracks. Brayson has written 28 musicals that have been staged in theatre markets including London’s West End and New York’s Broadway, as well as numerous international productions. His credits include the musical From Here To Eternity.

To support the company’s operations and growth, Wright has assembled a specialist team of four industry professionals. Joseph Spiteri serves as A&R Director, overseeing artist development and repertoire. Roberta Moore leads sync activity as Sync Manager, while Naomi Wallace manages rights administration in her role as Rights Manager. Finance Manager Ellen Sorlan oversees financial operations.

Right Tracks has been established with a flexible, artist-focused approach, tailoring its level of support to the specific requirements of each client. Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all model, the company adjusts its resources and services according to the stage, ambitions, and needs of individual artists and songwriters. Beyond traditional label and publishing functions, Right Tracks also provides comprehensive support in areas such as rights management, registrations, royalty administration, sync licensing opportunities, and long-term catalogue strategy. The company extends these services not only to active songwriters but also to estates seeking professional management and development of their musical assets.

“I am tremendously enthused and excited to be back in the record business after a reasonably lengthy hiatus of over 10 years,” said Chris Wright. “The record business has been a huge part of my life for well over 50 years now, and I have missed being part of it enormously. I’m aware that the matrix of how one operates have changed significantly from my heyday and that replicating the kind of success we had with artists like Debbie Harry of Blondie, David Bowie, Ultravox, Huey Lewis, and Spandau Ballet to name just a few will not come easy,” added Wright.

He continued, “We are, however, really excited about the new talent we have discovered, and we are totally committed to doing everything possible to develop them into the superstars of tomorrow. It will be an honor and a privilege to be associated with the success of this nature should it happen. And hopefully it will!”

A&R Worldwide Exposed

Each week, A&R Worldwide shares a snapshot of creatives and executives that we have collaborated or worked with in various music markets around the world, albeit in recent or previous times!

ENJOYING AN INSPIRING A&R AND MUSIC CONVERSATION: Pictured (L-R) are Imran Majid (Co-Chairman & CEO, Island Records) and Sat Bisla (President & Founder, A&R Worldwide / MUSEXPO) at the New York City headquarters of Island Records last week.

Imran Majid (Co-Chairman & CEO, Island Records) and Sat Bisla (President & Founder, A&R Worldwide / MUSEXPO) share a lot in common. From their passion for music, their start in the music business as interns, to being two of the most influential and respected executives of South Asian heritage in the U.S. and throughout the worldwide music business.

Imran’s ascent to running Island Records began with a foundational belief in artist development forged in the trenches of A&R. Starting his trajectory as an intern and an assistant at Universal Motown in 2004, Majid built his reputation across roles at Republic and Columbia Records by treating talent scouting as a long-term patience game. At Columbia, alongside his eventual Island Records co-CEO Justin Eshak, Majid focused on steady, incremental growth rather than chasing fleeting viral moments. His tenure was defined by shepherding then-obscure 17-year-olds like Lil Tjay into Platinum-selling mainstream performers and helping steer breakthrough moments for acts like Rosalía and Polo G. This ground-level ethos, which prioritized the relationship between a performer and their audience has established Majid as a pragmatic, modern music executive who understood how to construct a sustainable cultural footprint.

When Universal Music Group appointed Majid and Eshak to lead Island Records as co-CEOs in 2022, the legendary label faced an identity crisis, holding a dwindling market share.

Rather than attempting a top-down corporate overhaul, Majid leaned into the institution’s historical DNA of creative independence and stripped back the label’s focus to a small, intensely curated roster. This pivot allowed Island to heavily invest resources into building the live touring footprints and dedicated fan bases of developing artists.

The executive team’s measured strategy proved transformative; within a few years, deliberate multi-album campaigns culminated in a massive commercial and critical revival. Anchored by the historic, multi-Grammy-nominated breakouts of Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan

Majid’s tenure has transformed a legacy label into a nimble powerhouse. In doing so, he cemented his own legacy as a leader who stabilized a business by simply betting on the art. He has also become a respected figure within the South Asian and global music community with his consistency in developing success for artists, and his team, as well as retaining his humility and independence.

A&R Worldwide Artist Of The Week

CASSIA

Cassia dishes out “lemon gelato,” a warm, bittersweet title track that signals an exciting new chapter for the Macclesfield, England trio ahead of their forthcoming album of the same name, due on August 28th. Built around looping guitars, shimmering synths, and steady percussion, the single blends Cassia’s signature sun-soaked indie sound with more introspective songwriting, balancing nostalgic warmth with emotional uncertainty. Written in Berlin, Germany following their everyone, outside tour, “lemon gelato” explores the push-and-pull of trying to move on from a relationship while still feeling tied to the past. It’s dreamy, reflective, and effortlessly transportive, capturing the emotional depth that runs throughout the upcoming album while holding onto the escapist energy that has become central to the band’s sound. From busking on the streets of Cornwall to selling out headline shows across the U.K. and Europe, Cassia have steadily carved out a unique space in modern indie music. Drawing from African rhythms, indie rock, and shimmering alt-pop influences, the trio have earned widespread support from BBC Radio 1, Radio X, Passport Approved, Rolling Stone U.K., Clash, and more, while building a devoted global fanbase through tracks like “Right There,” “Drifting,” and “100 Times Over.” With a major U.K. and European tour ahead, including stops at London’s O2 Forum Kentish Town and Manchester’s O2 Ritz, “lemon gelato” feels like the sound of a band growing confidently into their next era while staying true to the warmth and wanderlust that first made people fall in love with them. Sample “lemon gelato” HERE and contact Tabeah for available opportunities worldwide with Cassia.

ADMT

British singer/songwriter ADMT steps into his most honest and emotionally charged chapter yet with “Burn Brighter,” a standout moment from his debut album From Good To Bad Then Back Again (BMG). Fresh off arena dates supporting Louis Tomlinson across the U.K. and Europe and now building momentum with his own recently sold-out headline run the Doncaster-based artist continues to connect through raw storytelling that feels lived-in, vulnerable, and deeply human. Built around soaring emotion and acoustic warmth, “Burn Brighter” reflects on the suffocating reality of feeling trapped in a life that no longer feels authentic, inspired by ADMT’s own experience working exhausting factory shifts before choosing to pursue music. That tension between fear and freedom runs throughout the song, giving it an emotional weight that cuts far deeper than a typical anthemic singer-songwriter track. Across From Good To Bad Then Back Again, ADMT deals with themes of mental health, poverty, self-worth, and survival with striking openness, creating a debut that feels less like a polished statement and more like a real-time reflection of someone trying to make sense of life as it unfolds. It’s this honesty that has helped ADMT cultivate a fiercely loyal global audience, first sparked by his viral cover of 50 Cent’s “Best Friend,” which was shared by 50 Cent himself, and strengthened through breakout releases like “Without You,” “Wish You Loved You,” and “Man Now.” With a rapidly growing international fanbase, sold-out headline shows, and his biggest U.K. tour yet scheduled for 2027, “Burn Brighter” captures an artist fully stepping into his purpose, carrying grit, heart, and hard-earned perspective into every word. Enjoy the visual for “Burn Brighter” HERE, and contact Mortiz Friedenberg for additional information and available opportunities globally on behalf of ADMT.

MODERN SKY LAUNCHES MDSK NAME IN THE UK: Modern Sky has officially introduced its Chinese youth culture brand MDSK to the U.K. market. Originally launched in China in 2016, MDSK has become a force in youth culture through its activities as a record label, management company, and music festival brand. Over the years, it has aided in driving the growth of hip-hop and R&B in China, while also contributing to the emergence and mainstream success of Asian pop music. The U.K. operation will launch under the name MDSK (0151), a new platform developed by Modern Sky U.K. with its own distinct identity and creative vision. While drawing inspiration from the legacy of its Chinese counterpart, MDSK (0151) will focus on cultivating emerging genres, supporting underground music communities, and creating opportunities for collaboration among artists and creatives. The initiative is designed to serve as a space for innovation, experimentation, and long-term artistic development. Leading the new venture is Leena Lewis, who joins Modern Sky U.K. to head MDSK (0151). Lewis brings more than two decades of music industry experience, having built a reputation as an artist manager and collaborated with several artists, executives, and organizations, including Anjuna Beats, Jho Oakley, Chase & Status, and Above & Beyond. Along with her industry expertise, Lewis brings a roster of artists that includes Kurupt FM and Hugo Chegwin, Jianbo, Mat Zo, Rude Kid, and CopDat. Several of those artists, including Jianbo, CopDat, Hugo Chegwin, and Kurupt FM, have also signed recording agreements with MDSK (0151), becoming part of the label’s inaugural roster. Since establishing its U.K. operations in 2017, Modern Sky U.K. has developed a strong presence across the British music landscape through its label, management, publishing, and artist development activities. Alongside subsidiary Run on Records, Modern Sky U.K. continues to support artists with distinctive creative identities while helping them expand their reach domestically and internationally. Recent achievements for the company include U.K. No. 1 albums from The Lottery Winners, The Lathums, and Mick Head, as well as multiple U.K. Top 10 album chart successes from artists including Jamie Webster and Red Rum Club.

Standing (L-R) are Hanno Fierdag (Lawyer BMG), Jasper Niebuhr (BMG), Jana Vejmelka (BMG), Luca Anzilotti, Matthias Adelsbach (BMG), Karsten Dropmann (Lawyer Luca Anzilotti), and Philipp Neuhaus (BMG)

BMG ACQUIRES PUBLISHING RIGHTS OF SNAP! CO-FOUNDER LUCA ANZILOTTI: BMG has expanded its ownership stake in the Eurodance repertoire of Snap! through the acquisition of the publishing interests of German producer and songwriter Luca Anzilotti. Anzilotti co-founded Snap! in 1989 alongside Michael Münzing, helping to shape one of the most successful dance music acts of the early 1990s. The duo’s debut album, World Power, released in 1990, became a commercial success throughout Europe, reaching the top of the charts in multiple territories and earning numerous Gold and Platinum certifications. Among the group’s achievements was the 1992 hit “Rhythm Is a Dancer.” The single dominated charts across several countries, including the United Kingdom, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Austria, Italy, and Belgium. In the U.S., the track climbed to No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100, while also securing Platinum certifications in both the U.K. and Germany.
