FRANK BRIEGMANN NAMED CHAIRMAN & CEO OF UNIVERSAL MUSIC EUROPE, AUSTRALIA, NEW ZEALAND, CANADA & DEUTSCHE GRAMMOPHON

Universal Music Group (UMG) has appointed Frank Briegmann as Chairman & CEO of Universal Music Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and Deutsche Grammophon, expanding his leadership responsibilities across several key international markets.

Frank Briegmann

Previously Chairman & CEO of Universal Music Central Europe, Briegmann’s new role is designed to strengthen cross-territory collaboration and create more opportunities for artists to expand from local markets to regional and global audiences. He will continue to report to Sir Lucian Grainge, Chairman & CEO, UMG.

Briegmann has spent 22 years with UMG, joining the company in 2004 as CEO of its German business. His responsibilities later grew to include Central, Northern and Eastern Europe, as well as global leadership of Deutsche Grammophon. During his tenure, he has focused on digital transformation, developing local talent and expanding international opportunities for artists and music cultures.

Sir Lucian Grainge, Chairman & CEO, Universal Music Group, said, “Frank and I have worked together for more than 20 years, and he is a fierce artist champion with a proven history of building long-term careers. He combines creative expertise with business acumen and insights into data and technology. Just as importantly, he respects what makes every market different and knows how to give great local leaders the freedom and support to succeed. SONNY TAKHAR NAMED CHAIRMAN & CEO OF WARNER MUSIC U.K. & IRELAND

Warner Music Group has appointed Sonny Takhar as Chairman & CEO of Warner Music U.K. & Ireland, with the veteran music executive set to take on the role in January 2027.

Sonny Takhar

Takhar will lead the company’s creative direction, artist development, and strategic operations across WMG’s recorded music business in the U.K. and Ireland. His responsibilities will also include operational oversight of ADA, Warner Music’s independent distribution arm, in the region. Additionally, Takhar will report to Val Blavatnik, Managing Director of Warner Music North America, U.K. & Corporate Development, and will work closely with Elliot Grainge, Chairman & CEO of Atlantic Music Group and Chairman of ADA in the U.S., as well as Aaron Bay-Schuck, Chairman & CEO of Warner Records Group.

His appointment comes amid a period of leadership change at Warner Music’s London operations. Tony Harlow stepped down as CEO of Warner Music U.K. in October 2025, while longtime Warner executive Simon Robson is set to depart in December 2026 following nearly 30 years with the company.

Takhar brings extensive experience across recorded music, artist management, publishing, and entertainment. As a founding partner of Simon Cowell’s Syco Entertainment within Sony Music, he helped develop a roster that generated more than 400 million record sales, 244 No. 1 albums, and 169 No. 1 singles globally. He played key roles in the careers of One Direction, Labrinth, Leona Lewis, Little Mix, James Arthur, and Fifth Harmony, while also helping launch the global television franchises The X Factor and Got Talent.

More recently, Takhar co-founded Los Angeles-based KYN Entertainment with Live Nation, spanning recorded music, publishing, and management. His career also includes guiding Westlife through sold-out stadium tours worldwide and managing songwriter and producer Steve Mac.

Beyond music, Takhar co-created UNICEF’s World Children’s Day and continues to serve as a formal advisor to the organization.

AVEX ACQUIRES BRANDON SILVERSTEIN’S S10 ENTERTAINMENT

Avex has announced that it has acquired an additional 85% stake in S10 Entertainment from Brandon Silverstein and his partners, further integrating the company into Avex Music Group and advancing Avex’s vision of building one global music company.

Brandon Silverstein

Silverstein will remain CEO of both S10 Entertainment and Avex Music Group, as well as a board member and equity partner in Avex Music Group. In his expanded role, he will work closely with Avex’s leadership to develop global opportunities and strategic partnerships spanning recorded music, publishing, live entertainment, touring, and investments. Avex generated nearly $1 billion (USD) in revenue during its most recent fiscal year.

The deal follows Avex’s acquisition of the S10 Music Publishing catalog in March 2025, marking the second transaction involving businesses built by Silverstein and further strengthening the partnership between Silverstein and Avex.

At the time of the publishing acquisition, S10’s catalog had generated more than 22 global No. 1 hits and 50 billion streams, featuring songs recorded by artists including Justin Bieber, Drake, Tate McRae, Doja Cat, Post Malone, and Rihanna.

Since Silverstein became CEO of Avex Music Group in 2025, the company has expanded its global publishing operations, including a publishing administration partnership with Bruno Mars and the launch of a $100 million publishing acquisition initiative. Avex Music Group’s creative roster has also achieved major recognition, including Kamal Wilson’s Grammy Award for Best R&B Song for co-writing Kehlani’s “Folded.” In June 2026, Silverstein and Kuroiwa accepted Billboard’s Global Growth Award on behalf of Avex Music Group.

The expanded partnership supports Avex’s broader strategy of connecting its global businesses across recorded music, publishing, artist management, marketing, live entertainment, and touring. Through talent development, catalog acquisitions, strategic investments, and global partnerships, Avex aims to create new opportunities for artists, songwriters, and industry partners worldwide.

Avex’s label strategy includes continued investment in the international careers of XG and ONE OR EIGHT, alongside the signing and development of artists from the U.S. and other global markets. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Silverstein was represented by Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP.

10K PROJECTS AND ATLANTIC RECORDS TEAM UP WITH CARTER GREGORY’S PLOT TWIST RECORDS

Plot Twist Records, the independent label founded by music executive and media personality Carter Gregory, has entered a joint venture with 10K Projects and Atlantic Records.

Carter Gregory

The label’s first roster additions include singer Alabama Barker and DJ and artist Nic Vans, known professionally as Nic Vansteenberghe and recognized for finishing as runner-up on the reality series Love Island USA.

Gregory brings nearly a decade of experience in music A&R and creative leadership to the venture. Most recently, he served as Vice President of A&R at Capitol Records, where he collaborated with artists including Fletcher, Doechii, Adéla, Natalie Jane, Amelia Moore, Queen Naija, and Duncan Laurence.

Beyond his executive career, Gregory is the host of The Set List, a popular podcast featuring conversations with musicians, actors, and other prominent figures across the entertainment industry.

“Having spent nearly a decade in A&R helping artists shape their stories, Plot Twist is the culmination of everything I’ve learned, brought to life through my own vision,” said Carter Gregory. “I have always believed the most exciting artists are the ones who challenge others’ expectations. The ones that are willing to take risks, evolve, and write a completely new chapter for themselves. That’s really the heart of Plot Twist Records, and I am excited to continue this journey in partnership with 10K Projects/Atlantic Records. I want this label to be a home for artists who are undeniable, who have something to say, and who may not fit neatly into the traditional box of what the industry thinks a star should look or sound like. The best careers have a plot twist.”

“Carter is not only an expert at identifying culturally impactful artists who are moving the needle, but he’s exceptionally talented in creating communities around the music he loves,” said Atlantic Music Group COO Zach Friedman. “We’re thrilled to be working closely with him on his expanding roster of artists at Plot Twist.”

Each week, A&R Worldwide shares a snapshot of creatives and executives that we have collaborated or worked with in various music markets around the world, albeit in recent or previous times!

A SURPRISE COLDPLAY MOMENT AT MUSEXPO: Coldplay’s Chris Martin (pictured right) showed up at one of MUSEXPO’s showcase nights on his own personal accord several years back to check out new emerging talent performing at the event. A&R Worldwide VP Joe Arnold (pictured left) extended MUSEXPO’s renowned hospitality to Chris. Ironically, several years prior to this moment, a German artist named Femme Schmidt also showcased at MUSEXPO and landed two syncs (FOX and ABC) thanks to A&R Worldwide’s support leading into the event, and she then secured the entire Elton John tour for Australia as his tour manager saw her showcase at the event. Chris Martin captured Femme Schmidt performing at the Elton John show in Sydney, Australia, where he and Coldplay became instant fans, and gave her the opportunity to be the support act for their German tour – talk about a full circle MUSEXPO moment!

Over the years, MUSEXPO showcases have helped many artists get signed or launched onto the global stage (Katy Perry, Jessie J, Forest Blakk, Gavin James, Mads Langer, Missy Higgins, Sheppard, Lime Cordiale, Laleh, The Temper Trap, Robyn, Jerub, Dave Lofts, LMFAO, Avalanche City, Benny Sings, to name but a very few).

Next year’s MUSEXPO will be extra special for showcase artists as the event will coincide with A&R Worldwide’s 25th anniversary with a significant U.S. and global A&R presence at the event and showcases.

Prior to securing a U.S. record deal, A&R Worldwide Founder Sat Bisla collaborated closely with Dave Holmes, then the GM of Nettwerk Music America and subsequently Coldplay’s worldwide manager for over two decades. Sat was an A&R consultant and global strategic advisor to Dave and Nettwerk at the time (from 1998 – 2002) and played a crucial role in obtaining Coldplay’s initial radio support in the U.S. for their import single, “Yellow.” Several influential radio stations added the band to their official rotation, generating significant momentum for Coldplay in the U.S. and leading to their signing with Capitol Records, who had initially passed on signing the band.

Throughout Coldplay’s early years, Sat Bisla maintained a close working relationship with Dave Holmes, providing valuable A&R insights on the band’s upcoming albums and potential singles. Furthermore, Bisla facilitated important introductions to his key relationships for Dave Holmes to essential international relationships, contributing to Coldplay’s continued ascent to global success during this pivotal period of their career.

The relationship between A&R Worldwide’s Sat Bisla and Dave Holmes showcases the power of strategic partnerships, key global relationships, and industry expertise in propelling artists’ careers to new heights.

A&R Worldwide Artist Of The Week

RATOON

South Wales indie-rockers Ratoon make their latest statement with “Are You Feeling Fine?,” a punchy new single that captures the youthful energy, emotional honesty, and infectious hooks that have quickly become the band’s calling cards. Blending driving guitars with an unmistakable indie swagger, the track showcases a four-piece with a growing knack for turning real-life emotion into songs built for the live room. Comprised of Eifion Davies, Sam Davies, Matti Huxtable, and Josh Davies, Ratoon have already made serious strides on the U.K. indie circuit, building a devoted following through a string of high-energy shows and standout festival appearances. The band shared stages with The View and Alfie Templeman, while also performing at the Isle of Wight Festival, impressive milestones for a band still early in their journey. Following their debut EP Butterfly Effect, which has surpassed 50,000 collective streams, Ratoon have earned support from BBC Radio Wales and BBC Radio Cymru, including Adam Walton and Mirain Iwerydd, who named them “New Band of The Month.” With comparisons to The Royston Club, Safari Gold and The Now, Ratoon are carving out a sound that feels both immediate and distinctly their own. “Are You Feeling Fine?” is another confident step from a band with the songs, energy, and ambition to make a serious impact beyond Wales. Check out “Are You Feeling Fine?” HERE, and contact Aled Thomas for available opportunities on behalf of Ratoon.

ST. LUNDI

Singer-songwriter St. Lundi enters a new chapter with “Dopamine,” an uplifting, euphoric new single that highlights a bigger, more dynamic side of his sound. Built around sparkling synths, heartfelt vocals, and a distinctly band-driven energy, the track is the third release from his upcoming EP, written and recorded in Los Angeles and due this November. Written as a personal letter to someone close to St. Lundi who has struggled with ADHD and addiction, “Dopamine” transforms a deeply personal story into something hopeful and celebratory. Its shifting production mirrors the restless movement of ADHD, with the attention constantly moving between instruments while maintaining an infectious sense of momentum. The result is a track that feels both emotionally grounded and undeniably alive. Co-produced by St. Lundi alongside Adam Ackerman and Eric Caruso, both graduates of the Los Angeles Academy for Artists and Music Production (LAAMP), “Dopamine” continues an ambitious creative run for an artist whose music has amassed more than 40 million Spotify streams in the past year alone, with previous single “Nights Like This” surpassing 100 million streams. Following sold-out U.K. and European headline shows earlier this year, St. Lundi is expanding his international reach with upcoming U.S. headline dates and a 2027 U.K. and European tour. View the visual for “Dopamine” HERE, and contact Moritz Friedenberg for additional information and all available opportunities with St. Lundi worldwide.

SAM SCHERDEL SIGNS DEAL WITH CREATE MUSIC GROUP, OSTEREO & BROKE RECORDS: Sheffield singer-songwriter Sam Scherdel has signed a global recording deal with Create Music Group (CMG), alongside its U.K. label Ostereo and U.S.-based Broke Records. In 2022, Scherdel lost his job and made the decision to pursue music full-time and since then, he has thrown himself into writing, recording, and live performance, gradually building momentum before breaking through with his single “Somewhere in the Middle”. The track went viral online, racking up one million TikTok views in just four days. Its success was followed by a high-profile sync placement on ITV’s Love Island. Scherdel has since surpassed three million catalog streams and progressed from performing across Yorkshire to appearing at major U.K. and U.S. venues, festivals, and industry showcases. Under the new agreement, Scherdel becomes part of the expanding Create Music Group family, with Manchester-based Ostereo and U.S. label Broke Records supporting his continued development through global marketing, distribution, and artist strategy. Scherdel’s new single, “Kyoto Snow,” is set for release on October 16. Additionally, Scherdel became represented by X-ray Touring and appeared at SXSW, The Great Escape, BST Hyde Park, and Tramlines. His management at LAMA Management said Scherdel is emerging within a growing U.S. movement described as “Redemption Music” – a style centered on emotionally honest, deeply personal songwriting. The approach draws comparisons with artists including Noah Kahan and Jeff Buckley, with an emphasis on songs shaped by real-life experiences and direct emotional storytelling. Earlier this year, Scherdel collaborated with the Hull NHS Choir for an updated version of “Somewhere in the Middle,” recorded at Sheffield’s Yellow Arch Studios with Mercury Prize-nominated producer Colin Elliot. He has also toured the U.K. with Live Nation, with more live dates expected to be announced.

BREAKING BENJAMIN’S NO. 1 SINGLE “AWAKEN” CERTIFIED GOLD BY RIAA: Multi-Platinum rock band Breaking Benjamin has reached another career milestone, with its hit single “Awaken” officially certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), recognizing 500,000 certified units in the U.S. The certification, awarded September 4, marks the band’s first RIAA recognition since 2022 and caps a strong run for “Awaken” since its October 2024 release. The track was Breaking Benjamin’s first new music following its 2024 global recording agreement with BMG, the band’s first new label partnership in two decades. “Awaken” quickly gained traction across rock radio and digital platforms, spending four weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart while also topping the Rock Digital Song Sales, Alternative Digital Song Sales, and Hard Rock Digital Song Sales charts. The momentum continued with “Something Wicked,” released earlier this year, which reached No. 1 on both Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart and Mediabase’s Active Rock chart. The achievement marked Breaking Benjamin’s ninth Mainstream Rock Airplay No. 1 and gave the band consecutive chart-topping singles during its latest chapter with BMG. Together, “Awaken” and “Something Wicked” serve as the first releases from Breaking Benjamin’s upcoming studio album.
