LISTEN TO THE KIDS, SANTA ANNA & SONY MUSIC
LAUNCH JV WITH LUCAS THOMASHOW

Lucas Thomashow, known for his role as the Sr. Vice President at Avex’s U.S. division, has unveiled his new company SANA, a cutting-edge record label headquartered in Los Angeles.

Functioning as a collaborative effort between Sony Music affiliate Santa Anna, independent label LISTEN TO THE KIDS, and Thomashow himself, SANA positions itself as a boutique music company poised to provide comprehensive services for emerging talents, leveraging the backing and resources of a major label.

Lucas Thomashow & Conor Ambrose

Thomashow spearheaded the founding and growth of Avex’s front-line label SELENE. His tenure at SELENE saw the signing and development of artists like Sadie Jean and Austin George, with the label achieving considerable success, including the Gold certification of Sadie Jean’s single “WYD Now?” Outside of his role in artist development, Thomashow played a pivotal part in shaping Avex’s overarching strategy and operations. He contributed significantly to the development and marketing of the girl group XG and oversaw the S10 publishing joint venture, which featured the signings of prominent artists such as Jasper Harris, HARV, and Shenseea.

Thomashow also played a key role in Avex’s collaboration with TikTok star Ari Elkins to establish Blue Suede Records, and he helped navigate Avex’s $25 million (USD) venture fund. The association with Santa Anna is poised to streamline distribution, marketing, and promotion for SANA, while LISTEN TO THE KIDS’s A&R and marketing teams will actively contribute to shaping SANA’s strategic direction and label development.

Santa Anna founded earlier this year by Todd Moscowitz, the experienced executive behind Alamo Records, operates under the leadership of Lee L’Heureux, formerly the General Manager at Geffen Records and currently serving as President of Alamo Records following its acquisition by Sony in a substantial nine-figure deal in 2021.

In a short period, Santa Anna has expanded its footprint by introducing Great Day Records in collaboration with Baroline Diaz, the former Vice President of A&R at Interscope Records, and securing a distribution deal with LISTEN TO THE KIDS.

Since its establishment in 2020, LISTEN TO THE KIDS, helmed by CEO Conor Ambrose, has successfully inked deals with prominent artists such as Yeat, Alexander 23, and ericdoa. Also amongst its roster is Billboard Hot 100 writer/producer Omar Fedi.

U.K. LABEL EXECUTIVE DAVID DOLLIMORE
LAUNCHES DISORDER WITH GEFFEN RECORDS U.S.

Former RCA Label Group U.K. President and dance music veteran, David Dollimore has announced the launch of Disorder Records, a new insignia for electronic music counterculture, in partnership with Geffen Records. The alliance will serve as a home to partner with and sign DJs, producers, artists, brands, and labels who are defining the global sound of tomorrow.

Disorder arrives with its first announcement of a major partnership with Manchester, England’s The Warehouse Project forming WHP Records, an original recording imprint harnessing sounds directly from the concourse of one of the most esteemed dance floors globally.

David Dollimore & Tom March

David Dollimore has a proven history in dance culture having been a key stakeholder in one of the most celebrated names in electronic music history, Ministry of Sound. His journey at Ministry took him from intern to boardroom during a decade in which he launched and guided the careers of Eric Prydz, Duke Dumont, Axwell, Benny Benassi, MK, and Avicii (Tim Berg), scoring a record amount of No.1 singles in the process. Ministry housed a landmark nightclub, record label, and compilations business, restructuring the commercial and international reach of the British nightlife experience, an underground which to this day reverberates across the world.

When Ministry of Sound Recordings was acquired by Sony Music U.K., one of the biggest electronic music acquisitions in history, David was named President of the RCA Label Group, becoming one of the longest-serving Presidents in the label group’s history, extending his breakout hitlist with the likes of CamelPhat, Cat Burns, Aitch, Fredo, London Grammar and Jade Thirlwall.

The relationship between Dollimore and Tom March, President, Geffen Records runs deep, as March’s own career journey travels heavily through dance music. He began his journey to the head of one of the most powerful record labels in the world as a dance music PR, immersed in the dance music capitals of London, Berlin, Ibiza, and Miami, working with acts including Fatboy Slim, Damian Lazarus, and Royksopp. In his role as President of Geffen, March brings access to a dynamic global infrastructure, feeding into the Disorder offices in London and Interscope Geffen A&M(IGA) offices in Los Angeles.

Two founders of The Warehouse Project, Richard McGinnis, and Sam Kandel, have created one of the most vital platforms in the world for diverse musical programming. The Warehouse Project sells more than 300,000 tickets every winter season and develops dozens of new acts, supporting festival-level headliners week in, and week out. From Fred Again.. to Peggy Gou, Interplanetary Criminal to Four Tet, LCD Soundsystem to Nia Archives.

Tom March said, “At Geffen we are always looking to partner with our industry’s most successful and innovative entrepreneurs. I couldn’t be more excited to partner with David as he heads back to what I consider him to be the best in the world at, which is signing and A&R’ing dance music. Between us, we have worked with many of the great names in the last twenty years of electronic music. I am so happy to be joining forces with him now.”

A&R Worldwide Exposed

Each week, A&R Worldwide shares a snapshot of creatives and executives that we have collaborated or worked with in various music markets around the world, albeit in recent or previous times!

Having dinner together in London, England were Mel Medalie (Founder, Champion Records & Cheeky Records) with his close friend and mentee Sat Bisla (President & Founder, A&R Worldwide / MUSEXPO).

Mel Medalie stands as a true luminary in the realm of independent dance music, leaving an indelible mark on the industry as the Founder of the iconic U.K. dance label, Champion Records. Renowned for discovering and nurturing extraordinary talent, Mel’s keen instincts and innovative approach catapulted artists like Robin S, Kristine W, Will Smith, Staxx, Sandy B, Raze, and many others to U.K. and global success.

One of Mel’s key deals involved licensing Robin S‘s chart-topping single, “Show Me Love,” to Craig Kallman, then a young budding New York-based DJ and Founder behind Big Beat Records. This collaboration not only marked Kallman’s first-ever No.1 single but also served as a launchpad for his ascension to a key A&R role at Atlantic Records, where he now holds the position of Chairman & CEO.

Mel’s influence extended beyond Champion Records; as the co-Founder of Cheeky Records alongside producer/songwriter Rollo Armstrong, he played a pivotal role in shaping the careers of global sensations. Signing Dido to her first-ever deal and signing and developing the award-winning dance supergroup Faithless, Mel demonstrated an exceptional knack for recognizing and cultivating extraordinary talent. His signings also included Rob Dougan, Skinny, Pauline Taylor, and many others.

Beyond his professional achievements, Mel Medalie has served as a close friend and mentor to Sat Bisla, President & Founder of A&R Worldwide, for three decades. He’s also been a close friend and mentor to Martin Dodd (manager of global hitmaker Max Martin) and was an inspiration to the early career of Simon Cowell. Mel’s enduring commitment to fostering talent and shaping the industry underscores Mel’s legacy as a true trailblazer and pioneer for many decades. Plus, he’s just a fantastic guy who started his career as a hairstylist and went on to work with Brian Epstein (manager of The Beatles), as well as David Bowie‘s music publishing company before starting his own label and music publishing firm.
