CONCORD MUSIC PUBLISHING ANNOUNCES PROMOTIONS
OF KOURTNEY KIRKPATRICK AND MATT TURNER

Concord Music Publishing has announced two key executive promotions in its Nashville office. Kourtney Kirkpatrick has been elevated to Sr. Vice President of Synchronization, and Matt Turner has been promoted to Vice President of A&R.

Kourtney Kirkpatrick & Matt Turner

In her new role as Sr. Vice President, Sync, Kourtney Kirkpatrick will oversee the television division, which includes series, promos, trailers, and sports media. She currently manages a team across Los Angeles, Nashville, and New York, working to pitch and license Concord’s catalog, which features music by artists such as Rodgers & Hammerstein, John Fogerty, Phil Collins, Genesis, and Robert Johnson. Kirkpatrick’s expertise in reimagining these classic works for sync placements has been invaluable to the company’s efforts to revitalize its catalog through covers and remixes.

Throughout her career, Kirkpatrick and her team have secured sync placements in television series such as The Bear, Stranger Things, Ted Lasso, You, and Euphoria, as well as trailer uses for studios like FOX, Netflix, and Apple, and brands including Xbox and Microsoft. Additionally, she has been instrumental in the development of sync-focused artists and writers, such as Ruelle, whose work has appeared on Billboard’s year-end Top Synced Artists list.

Kirkpatrick also leads Concord’s annual sync camp in Nashville, which brings together over 80 songwriters and music supervisors to create original music for media. The camp, now in its 12th year, has resulted in over 350 sync placements to date. Beyond Nashville, she has expanded Concord’s sync camps internationally, hosting events in cities such as Los Angeles, Paris, and New Zealand. Recognized for her achievements, Kirkpatrick was named to Billboard’s “40 Under 40” list in 2020 and serves as a founding board member of Nashville in Sync, an organization designed to connect sync professionals in the region.

Matt Turner, promoted to VP, A&R, will continue to identify talent, manage new client negotiations, and explore catalog opportunities. His promotion highlights his crucial role in expanding Concord’s Nashville and country music roster. Turner’s ability to build successful relationships with songwriters and producers has contributed to the company’s continued success in the country music space. In 2024 alone, Concord’s Nashville roster writers contributed to five Country Radio No.1 hits, and just weeks into 2025, they’ve already added two more, including tracks by Morgan Wallen and Parmalee.

Turner brings 18 years of industry experience, having worked with top songwriters at Big Loud Shirt (now Big Loud) and Downtown Music Publishing before joining Concord. His work with writers such as Josh Miller, Andy Albert, and Abram Dean has helped establish Concord as a key player in the country music publishing world.

Dave Cobb, the nine-time Grammy Award-winning producer known for shaping the sound of Music City, has been appointed as Chief Creative Officer. Cobb is recognized as one of the most sought-after collaborators in Nashville, having worked with an array of artists across genres. In making the announcement, Sir Lucian Grainge, Chairman and CEO of UMG, said, “We see an incredible opportunity to expand our presence in Nashville and build upon our industry leading track record. WARNER BROS. STRIKES $1 BILLION MUSIC RIGHTS DEAL

Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) has teamed up with U.K.’s Cutting Edge Group to form a joint venture that will co-own and manage WBD’s catalog of film and TV music. This move is being hailed as one of the largest music rights deals in history, with the transaction valued at over $1 billion (USD), according to the Financial Times.

In the deal, Cutting Edge will acquire a portion of the catalog and handle its management. Alongside Cutting Edge, Germany’s DWS Group—managing nearly $1 trillion in assets—will co-invest. The catalog in question spans almost a century of music, covering over 400,000 tracks, including some of the most iconic scores and theme songs in film and TV, from franchises like Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and DC Comics to TV shows like Friends, Game of Thrones, Succession, and The White Lotus.

Other notable works in the portfolio include Rebel Without a Cause, Blade Runner, The Exorcist, The Shawshank Redemption, and Sex and the City. The primary goal of the JV is to maximize the distribution and revenue potential of these musical assets. Despite the new partnership, WBD will still maintain creative and operational control over the rights. Music from WBD’s Warner Bros., HBO, and Turner Networks libraries will continue to be managed by Universal Music Publishing Group, while the Discovery/Scripps Networks content will stay under Sony Music Publishing’s administration.

Paul Broucek, President, Music, Warner Bros. Discovery said, “This partnership with CEG is the perfect way to expand access to our unparalleled music library while honoring our long history of strong creative oversight and protecting the integrity of the works and artists. Together with CEG, we can find new and exciting ways to entertain a new generation of fans.”

Philip Moross, CEO, Cutting Edge Group, added, “This truly is an iconic assembly of catalogs created over almost a century by one of Hollywood’s original studios and to have the opportunity to invest in and manage this JV alongside WBD is an incredibly exciting prospect for us. This special partnership with Warner Bros. is the culmination of many years of work on the part of our team at Cutting Edge and is a strong endorsement of our early conviction and specialist expertise in this area of the market.”

This partnership comes two years after reports surfaced that WBD was looking to sell its music catalog, which was estimated at the time to be worth over $1 billion. Notably, Cutting Edge also refinanced $500 million in debt last year, with plans to pursue further investments in the industry.
