MERCURY RECORDS NAMES TYLER ARNOLD CHAIRMAN & CEO
AND BEN ADELSON PRESIDENT & COO

Mercury Records has named Tyler Arnold to the role of Chairman & CEO and Ben Adelson to President & COO. Both will report directly to REPUBLIC Collective‘s Founder, Chairman, and CEO Monte Lipman, and his brother, Founder, Vice-Chairman, and COO Avery Lipman. Arnold will be based at Mercury’s New York headquarters, while Adelson will continue working from the Los Angeles office.

Ben Adelson & Tyler Arnold

Since relaunching Mercury Records in 2022 as President and General Manager, Arnold and Adelson have revitalized the label, which has now marked its 80th anniversary. This year alone Mercury secured five albums in the Top 20 of the Billboard 200 charts and has been instrumental in the success of artists such as Post Malone, Noah Kahan, and Morgan Wallen. Post Malone’s F-1 Trillion debuted at No.1 on the Billboard 200, with the artist also receiving eight Grammy nominations and a top spot for his song “I Had Some Help” as the Second Best-selling Song of 2024.

Meanwhile, Morgan Wallen’s partnership with Big Loud has made Dangerous: The Double Album the best-selling album of the 21st century so far, with his new single “I’m The Problem” also debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Country Songs chart.

Arnold is recognized for signing Post Malone, Metro Boomin, and Bo Burnham. His journey began as an intern at Republic Records, where he quickly rose to an A&R assistant role within five months. Adelson’s career at Republic Records also began as an intern in 2007, where he served as Avery Lipman’s assistant in 2008, before advancing through the ranks of A&R. He played a key role with signing Noah Kahan, James Bay, Stephen Sanchez, Conan Gray, and Lord Huron, among others. He also managed Young The Giant‘s career.

Monte and Avery Lipman said, “Tyler and Ben began their careers at Republic, and we’ve had a front-row seat to their incredible growth. It’s been nothing short of inspiring to watch. With Mercury, they are building a legacy that honors the label’s history by developing, breaking, and supporting the next generation of career-defining artists.”

Both Arnold and Adelson have been recognized by industry outlets, including being named to Billboard‘s 40 Under 40, Country Power Players, and 2025 Power 100 lists. Arnold was also honored by Forbes in its 30 Under 30 list in 2022.

SONY MUSIC PUBLISHING RENEWS GLOBAL DEAL WITH INDIA’S TIPS MUSIC

Tips Music and Sony Music Publishing have expanded their global publishing partnership, originally established in 2023. This new multi-year agreement grants Sony Music Publishing extended rights to the Tips Music catalog, which has over 32,000 tracks in 24 languages. The catalog is home to some of India’s most iconic film soundtracks and popular music. As part of the deal, Sony Music Publishing will manage the administration, synchronization, and promotion of Tips Music’s catalog across global digital platforms.

A key addition to the renewed deal is the inclusion of YouTube (worldwide, excluding India) as a primary platform for the international publishing of Tips Music’s catalog. This expansion highlights both companies’ commitment to elevating the global presence of Indian music, especially as Bollywood soundtracks continue to grow in popularity internationally.

Tips Music announced plans to significantly invest in releasing 12 to 15 Bollywood and regional film albums annually. The company also continues to expand its independent music offerings under the Tips Originals brand.

Based in Mumbai, Tips Music, formerly known as Tips Industries, recently reported an increase in revenue for its latest fiscal quarter, along with a growing YouTube subscriber base. In the third quarter of fiscal 2025 (calendar Q4, ending December 31, 2024), the company recorded a revenue of ₹777 (INR) million (close to $9.2 million USD), marking a 20% increase from the same period the previous year. Also, Tips Music has entered a direct deal with TikTok to make its catalog available to users globally, excluding China and India.

Guy Henderson, President, International, Sony Music Publishing, said, “We are thrilled to be expanding our relationship with Kumar and his team at Tips. Tips’ exceptional growth has been a constant factor over many years. Sony Music Publishing looks forward to an exciting future with Tips with their continued growth and success around the world.”

Kumar Taurani, Managing Director, Tips Music Ltd, added, “Building on the success of our initial partnership with Sony Music Publishing, this renewal marks an exciting evolution in our global publishing business. In just over a year of collaboration, we’ve seen remarkable growth in our international music usage, with our songs finding new listeners across continents. Adding YouTube as a platform opens significant new avenues for our artists and catalogs to reach audiences worldwide.”

THE A&R WORLDWIDE PODCAST FEATURING AN INTERVIEW WITH MARKUS SCHWARZER, CEO, CYANITE

The A&R Worldwide Podcast is a weekly series spotlighting pivotal figures shaping the international music business. Recorded during MUSEXPO in Burbank, CA, the premier conference is renowned for its influence on the global music industry – the podcast delivers insightful discussions with executives driving creative and business innovation. This week’s episode features a conversation between Markus Schwarzer, CEO of the Al Solutions company Cyanite, and Taylor Jones, Founder & CEO, The Hello Group (THG).

Markus Schwarzer leads the global music AI company Cyanite as CEO. Cyanite was co-founded by Markus and business partners who met at renowned university for music business, the Popakademie Baden Württemberg, while studying for their Masters in Music & Creative Industries.

Previously a label founder and PR strategist for acts like Lenny Kravitz and Bonobo, Markus is a published writer on music business innovation and lecturer at various music business universities.

The urge to co-found Cyanite came from Markus’ fascination with the power of music in our memory when a song perfectly fits mood and moment. Inspired by this concept of music moments, the three Cyanite co-founders launched their first venture together. Named Groovecat, it enabled users to capture, save, and share those special moments.

Soon, they realized the huge value in the data generated by the Groovecat app and started to build a business model around monetizing that data. They also discovered that a real problem exists in the process of choosing music for advertising, movies, games, etc. They found out that a solution to this problem could be found in the algorithms being developed on Groovecat’s data.

This formed the nucleus of Cyanite which was launched in 2019, led by Markus and his partners’ vision of developing a universal intelligence that understands indexes and recommends the world’s music.

Taylor Jones brings his dynamic expertise as a globally recognized entertainment executive, celebrated for his contributions to the rise of K-Pop and his pivotal role in placing over 50 Billboard No.1 hits. As CEO of THG, Jones manages a diverse roster of influencers, artists, and producers, while driving strategic marketing, A&R, and branding initiatives across the entertainment spectrum. A Grammy executive member and an influential voice in music and tech, Jones has earned accolades such as “CEO of the Year” at the Global CEO of Excellence Awards and has been instrumental in placing hit songs for Disney stars Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez, and is currently expanding his creative and business impact across India and South Asia.

Together, Markus and Taylor discuss the intricacies of Cyanite and the evolution of AI in the world of music.

A&R Worldwide Exposed

Each week, A&R Worldwide shares a snapshot of creatives and executives that we have collaborated or worked with in various music markets around the world, albeit in recent or previous times!

BACK TO BLAKK AT MUSEXPO. Pictured (L-R) are Monte Malone (Sr. VP, A&R Worldwide), Platinum-selling artist and songwriter Forest Blakk, and Sat Bisla (President & Founder, A&R Worldwide) at MUSEXPO in Burbank – the event that paved the way for Forest Blakk to launch his global career.

Canadian singer/songwriter Forest Blakk first showcased at MUSEXPO back in 2011, and thanks to the event and support from A&R Worldwide landed a worldwide label deal with Germany’s DEAG Music with his previous artist incarnation.

In 2013, Forest Blakk parted ways with DEAG Music. However, with his then manager Trey Mills, and many years of pivotal support from A&R Worldwide, Forest Blakk garnered key support to continue with his music career when he was considering leaving music altogether. A&R Worldwide’s team (Sat Bisla, Monte Malone, and Joe Arnold) convinced Forest Blakk to continue with his music career and helped him secure his first-ever worldwide music publishing deal with a JV admin with Sony Music Publishing U.K., and a booking agent at Wasserman Music (then Paradigm).

A&R Worldwide helped A&R Forest Blakk’s debut self-released single, “Love Me” in 2014. A&R Worldwide was able to garner worldwide radio and streaming support for the song and racked up over 10,000 Shazam tags in just a few months, as well as helping the single become one of the top researching tracks ever on the audio consumer and music industry research platform SoundOut. This was all compounded with live opportunities and sync support from A&R Worldwide.

It was in 2015, after a series of instrumental events organized by A&R Worldwide that Forest Blakk showcased at MUSEXPO, which led to a worldwide major record label bidding war after his performance at the event thanks to the A&R guidance of A&R Worldwide – and eventually with the personal recommendation of Sat Bisla and his team, and his late and great friend Seymour Stein, Co-Founder, Sire Records (who discovered Forest Blakk at the MUSEXPO showcase) that Forest Blakk decided to sign with Atlantic Records. It was the key guidance and support of the A&R Worldwide team, and its Founder Sat Bisla, who had originally played demos from the artist to Pete Ganbarg (then Head of A&R, Atlantic Records) at his office in New York a few months prior to his showcase at MUSEXPO, which changed the course of the artist’s career.
